Light Night Leeds is returning for the UK’s biggest annual arts and light festival, with Aire Park sponsoring the South Bank installations running from Leeds Docks up to Aire Park.
The South Bank will host an array of interactive light art installations, from local and international artists at the event on October 13 and 14, open from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.
Aire Park in collaboration with The Tetley, will host the Affinity by Amigo & Amigo installation – a large-scale installation crafted to resemble neurons in the brain. Attendees are encouraged to touch the globes which change colour and travel along the light pathways, interacting with the other globes in a display evoking the ideas of memory and emotion.
The Tetley building itself will host an indoor installation by UK artist Emily Binks called The Room, where neon lights are placed and visitors are invited to move the lights and create their own art. The Tetley will also be serving delicious street food style eating options during the evening until 10pm with the bar open until 11pm – the perfect place to end the night of cultural indulgence!
Other installations on the South Bank include LightStream by UK artist Flora Litchfield which explores nature and technology using lasers, Jaun Fuentes’ Kinetic Perspective with its optical illusions, a floating light display called The Shape of Light by Alex Webb-Ingall and the Light Knights and Castles light up performance inspired by the Royal Armouries collection – all set along various points of the river against the backdrop of Leeds Docks.
Simon Schofield, Vastint UK Construction Lead North, said: “Representing the South Bank as sponsors for this wonderful cultural event that brings the whole city together is a real honour for Vastint UK. The South Bank is at the start of an exciting regeneration project so to bring the work of so many talented artists from around the world to our shores is the ideal way to shine a light on the work being done here.”
“Aire Park is uniquely situated as both part of Leeds’s history and its future too. The Affinity installation at Aire Park speaks to this with its ideas of memory, as the site is part of the fabric of Leeds as well as hopefully the location of many memories to come.”
