A peek through the fence: Putting the park in Aire Park

There’s something special about Aire Park. It could be the iconic Tetley building, which we’re proud to be safeguarding for another century, or perhaps it’s the UK’s largest new city centre green park, which will sit at the heart of our community.

Having received a plethora of questions about what’s next for the park, we know that a lot of people are intrigued about what’s in store, so we wanted to take this opportunity to share our exciting plans and ambitions.

Earlier this year we moved back the hoardings to reveal the first phase of our public realm, and it’s been fantastic to start to see people engaging with the space. But this is just a seedling of what’s to come.

We’re pleased to share that, following the recent reopening of the Hunslet Stray, the next piece of our 8-acre park – that’s more than four times the size of Wembley football pitch – is currently underway. Our landscaping team has started to lay the turf for the largest green space to date which will connect the Tetley Green to Crown Point Road.  The turfing will complete towards the end of September, after which the grass will be left to germinate before opening to the public in summer 2025.

Progress is also being made on what will be the final area of the park and is included in our recently launched plans for the second phase of the Aire Park masterplan. This will extend the green space to the south of Crown Point Road and includes the final hectare of the park, an extended public realm and our Flowering Avenue. A picturesque linkway through the park, the Avenue will be an iconic springtime attraction and photo opportunity due to the bold blossoms.

We hope you’re as excited as we are about what’s to come at Aire Park and we can’t wait to welcome you all, adults, children and four legged friends to our new public spaces as soon as we can. If you do have any questions, please get in touch with us via info.uk@vastint.eu.
