ONE Campaign’s ‘Thousand Mile Cake’ Arrives at Aire Park

A striking installation is coming to Aire Park as The ONE Campaign brings its ‘Thousand Mile Cake’ tour to Leeds on 17 September 2026.

Located outside the iconic Tetley Building, the travelling cake installation forms part of ONE’s Born to Live campaign, which is calling for the appointment of an International Envoy for Children and Young People ahead of the UK’s G20 Presidency in 2027.

During its stop at Aire Park, visitors are invited to add a candle and message of hope to the cake. By the end of the 1,000-mile journey, the installation will feature 1,826 candles, representing every day of a child’s life from birth to their fifth birthday. The growing display serves as a powerful visual reminder of the importance of giving every child the opportunity to survive and thrive.

The installation has already travelled through Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gateshead, Birmingham and Bristol, collecting messages of support from communities across the country before continuing its journey towards a final event on the River Thames in Westminster.

The campaign highlights the challenge of child mortality worldwide, with millions of children still dying before their fifth birthday from preventable causes each year. Through the Born to Live campaign, ONE is calling for greater international action to improve health outcomes and opportunities for children and young people around the world.
